About this video: In this video, we show you how to download and install the Thermal Expansion and Thermal Foundation mods. What are the Thermal Expansion and Thermal Foundation mods? Well, it is a series of Minecraft mods that add in a bunch of different aspect specifically, it adds in a tech tree with multiple machines, balanced and flexible recipes, and overall, Thermal Expansion is one of the foundation mods for Minecraft gameplay.
Most modpacks are featuring Thermal Expansion in a big way using Fluid and Energy (RF) system. These systems were actually so popular that Forge integrated them directly as an energy system any mod can easily use. So, let’s jump right on into how to get Thermal Expansion in Minecraft 1.16.4.
The first step of getting Thermal Expansion 1.16.4 is actually downloading and installing Forge for Minecraft 1.16.4. You can find our in-depth tutorial on adding Forge to Minecraft 1.16.4 in the description above. It covers every single step of downloading, installing, and setting up 1.16.4 Thermal Expansion. We even show you how to fix any issues you may have when getting Forge.
After you have Forge installed, we can move on to downloading Thermal Expansion. This starts off with downloading the Thermal Foundation mod. You can find a link to Thermal Foundation in the description above. Once you are there, look at the right-hand sidebar and scroll down to the 1.16 section. You will find the 1.16.4 version of Thermal Foundation there. Click the purple download button to the right of this. Your download will then begin after a few seconds. You will need to keep/save the file depending on your browser.
You need to repeat the process in order to learn how to download Thermal Expansion for Minecraft 1.16.4. It is the exact same process. Lastly, you will need to download the CoFHCore. This process is also the same as Thermal Expansion and Thermal Foundation. You need all three of these mods, Thermal Foundation, Thermal Expansion, and CoFHCore to install Thermal Expansion.
Finally, it is time to install Thermal Expansion in Minecraft 1.16.4. To do this, hit the Windows Key and ‘R’ at the exact same time. This will open up the Run application. In the text box in this app, type ‘%appdata%’, and hit enter. That will then take you to your Roaming folder. Here, you will see a ‘.minecraft’ folder. Open that, and you will see a ‘mods folder. If you don’t, just create one. Now, all you need to do to install Thermal Foundation and Thermal Expansion in Minecraft 1.16.4 is drag-and-drop both of these mods including CoFHCore into this mods folder.
You aren’t complete done though, you still need to open up the Minecraft launcher and select the Forge profile with the little arrow next to the Play button. When you select this profile, click Play and Minecraft 1.16.4 will open up with Thermal Expansion and Thermal Foundation installed.
