How to Factory Reset your PS4 before Reselling (Initialize)
1Turn on your PS4 console. From the home screen, go to Settings. Scroll down and select Initialization. Choose Initialize PS4. You’ll see two options: Quick and Full. Select Full to completely wipe the console and restore it to factory settings. This removes all data, accounts, games, and settings. Press X to confirm. A warning will appear telling you all data will be deleted. Confirm again by selecting Yes and pressing X.
The process will start, and it may take a few hours depending on your PS4 model and storage size. Do not turn off the console during this time, as it could cause issues. Once finished, the PS4 will restart and display the initial setup screen, just like when it was new.
Before You Start
Sign out of your PlayStation Network account to unlink it. Go to Settings, Account Management, Sign Out. Also, deactivate the PS4 as your primary console. Go to Settings, Account Management, Activate as Your Primary PS4, then select Deactivate. You’ll need an internet connection for this step. Back up any data you want to keep, like game saves, to a USB drive. Go to Settings, System, Back Up and Restore, Back Up PS4, and follow the prompts.
