How to Fix Corrupted Data on PS4 Console & Games (Best Method)
Corrupted data on your PS4 console or games can manifest in various ways, from error messages (like CE-34878-0 or CE-36329-3) to crashes, freezing, or inability to launch games. It often points to issues with your hard drive, system software, or specific game files.
Here's how to fix corrupted data on your PS4, ranging from simple fixes to more drastic measures:
1. Basic Troubleshooting & Restart
Restart the PS4 Completely: A full power cycle can clear temporary glitches.
Hold the power button on the console for about 7-10 seconds until it fully shuts down (you'll hear two beeps).
Unplug the power cord from the PS4 and the wall outlet.
Wait for at least 5 minutes.
Plug everything back in and turn on your PS4.
Restart the Game/Application: If the corruption only affects one game, try closing it completely and relaunching it.
From the PS4 home screen, highlight the game.
Press the OPTIONS button on your controller.
Select Close Application.
Then, restart the game.
Check for Game and System Software Updates:
For System Software: Go to Settings - System Software Update. Install any available updates.
For Games: Highlight the game on your home screen, press the OPTIONS button, and select Check for Update. Corrupted data can sometimes be caused by outdated software.
2. Rebuild Database (Safe Mode)
This is one of the most common and effective fixes for corrupted data and general system sluggishness. It reorganizes the files on your hard drive, similar to defragmenting, and can resolve issues without deleting your games or save data.
Turn off your PS4 completely: Hold the power button on the console until it beeps twice and the power indicator light is off.
Enter Safe Mode:
Press and hold the power button again.
You'll hear one beep immediately. Continue holding for about seven seconds until you hear a second beep. Release the button.
Connect your DualShock 4 controller: Use a USB cable (ensure it's a data-transfer cable, not just for charging) and press the PS button on the controller.
From the Safe Mode menu, select Option 5: Rebuild Database.
Follow the on-screen prompts. This process can take anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on the amount of data on your hard drive. Your screen might go black for a while during the process; this is normal.
