About this video: This video is our in-depth tutorial on how to make a Minecraft server in 1.18! This server will be hosted on your own computer and is meant for you and a few friends to play Minecraft together. This means you will have to port forward in order for your friends to play, but you will have complete control over your 1.18 Minecraft server once it is setup. So, without any more delay, here is how to create a Minecraft server in 1.18!

First things first, we need to download the Minecraft server file for 1.18 servers. You can find a like to the Minecraft 1.18 server file in the description above. When you click that link, it will actually take you to our text tutorial for making a Minecraft server in 1.18. This is a great way to go through setting up a server at a slower pace. We can then click the green ‘Download Minecraft’ button to be taken to the official 1.18 server files download page.

On the Minecraft server file download page, click on the green ‘minecraft_server_1.18.jar’ link. This will start the Minecraft server.jar downloading. You will need to keep or save the file depending on your browser.

With the server.jar downloaded, you need to create a folder on your desktop called ‘Minecraft 1.18 Server’. Drag-and-drop the server.jar into this folder. Open this folder, and double click on the server.jar file. If you have any issues opening this file, you may need Java. It is linked in the description above.

Your server will actually fail to start the first time you double click the server.jar. It will, however, generate a few files and folders including the eula.txt file. Double click this and open it with notepad. Then, change ‘eula=false’ to ‘eula=true’ if you agree to the Minecraft EULA. Save the file, and double click the server.jar file again. This will start your server! You can now open up Minecraft 1.18 and join the server with the IP address ‘localhost’. Keep in mind you are the only person who can join your 1.18 Minecraft server this way.

For your friends to join your Minecraft server in 1.18, you will need to port forward. We have complete in-depth guides on how to port forward for a Minecraft server in the description above. However, the basics are you will need to forward the port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocols. When you have port forwarded that port, your friends will be able to join with your public IP address. We show you how to get this IP in the video!

You will then be able to play Minecraft 1.18 with your friends and family on a Minecraft 1.18 server that you fully control. However, hosting a server at a remote host like Apex will make things a lot easier and give you as much control and more security. You can get an Apex server at the link in the description above!

Nevertheless, you now know how to make a Minecraft 1.18 server! If you have any question about how to create a Minecraft server in 1.18, let us know in the comments below. We will try our best to help you out. However, if we did teach you how to start a 1.18 server in Minecraft, please give this video a thumbs and subscribe. Thanks in advance!
