So, without anymore delay, here is how to get more RAM in Minecraft 1.18!
First things first, we need to see how much RAM your computer has. This will determine how much RAM you can allocate to Minecraft 1.18. To do this, open up your start menu, and search for 'System Information'. Open up the system information app. In this app, you will see 'Installed Physical Memory'. This is how much RAM your computer has. You cannot dedicate more than half of this amount to Minecraft.
That means that if you have 16GB of RAM, you can't dedicate more than 8GM to Minecraft. However, do you need to dedicate that much RAM to Minecraft? In most cases, no, you don't. For vanilla Minecraft without any mods, we recommend 4GB of RAM. That should be plenty. If you are playing modded Minecraft however, you will need 6GB of RAM and if you are playing a modpack, you may need 8GB of RAM dedicated to Minecraft. Some modpacks need 10GB RAM to really get the most out of them and have a lag-free, crash-free experience.
Now that you now how much RAM to add to Minecraft 1.18 if you are playing vanilla or modded, how can you give Minecraft 1.18 more RAM? This is super simple. Just open up the Minecraft Launcher, click the 'Installations' tab at the top of Minecraft, and click the three dots on the version of Minecraft you want to add more RAM to. Click the 'Edit' option that appears, and then, click 'More Options'. Scroll down, and you will see a 'JVM Arguments' section.
At the very first part of the JVM Arguments section, you will see -XMX2G. The '2' may be different though. This is because the '2' is the amount of RAM you have dedicated to Minecraft. To up this to 4GB of RAM dedicated to Minecraft, you would simple change the string to -XMX4G. To up it to 8GB of RAM dedicated to modded Minecraft 1.18, change the string to -XMX8G. You can add as much RAM as you want up to the half amount of RAM you PC has.
When you have changed your JVM arguments, just click 'Save'. When you do, Minecraft 1.18 will now be saved with more RAM. You can repeat this for any other installations. Finally, hover over the installation you added more RAM to and click the green Play button. Minecraft 1.18 will now open up with more RAM added to it. In-game, hit F3, and you will be able to see how much RAM you have allocated to Minecraft in the top right!
