About this video: This video is shows you how to play Minecraft Forge mods with your friends by creating your own server. We cover downloading the mods for you server, creating a Forge server in 1.21.7, and then adding those mods to your server, so let’s get started!
First things first, you will need to download some Minecraft mods. Specifically, you will want to get some 1.21.7 Forge mods as Fabric and NeoForge mods will not work. There are links to download mods on CurseForge and Modrinth in the description above.
After you have your mods, you’ll want to download the Forge Mod Loader itself. You can find the download for Forge by Googling “Forge Minecraft Download”. On the Forge download page, make sure 1.21.7 is selected and click “Installer”. Wait about 10 seconds and click the red “Skip” button in the top right. Forge will the download.
Make a Minecraft Forge 1.21.7 Server folder on your desktop and open the Forge Installer. Select “Install Server” in the installer, and click the three dots in the red box that appears. Select the folder you created, and click “Okay”. Your Forge 1.21.7 server files will download and install into this folder.
From here, we can go to your Forge server folder and double-click the run.bat file. Your server will attempt to start and fail. If it doesn’t, you need to get Java 21. Now, you will have a mods folder and an eula.txt file. Add your mods to the mods folder. This is where any mods you want to add to the server will go. You and your friends will also need to install Forge and install the mods locally in your .minecraft folder as well in order to join.
Next, open the eula.txt file and change eula=false to eula=true. Save that file, and double-click the run.bat file again. Your modded Minecraft server will now start!
To join, you will need to install Forge into Minecraft singleplayer, add your mods to your local mods folder, and play Minecraft using Forge 1.21.7. You can then join your server using the IP local host.
For your friends to join, they will need to get Forge and the mods locally, but you will need to port forward. There is a complete guide on port forwarding linked in the description above. After you port forward, your friends will join using your public IP.
