How to Record Roblox with OBS on PC & Laptop
In this video I show you how to record Roblox with OBS on PC and laptop. You can use OBS to record Roblox regardless of if you have the desktop version or Microsoft Store version. To record with OBS you will first need to adjust the settings. When recording with OBS Studio you get a lot of control, meaning you can record the exact way that you want. This is particularly helpful if you want to make Roblox content.
The first settings you will need to change are the Output settings, which control the resolution that you are recording in. This allows you to record Roblox is 1080p, 1440p, or even 4K if you want. Additionally, you can choose the frame rate here. Typically, the best frame rate for recording Roblox is 60.
Additionally, you will need to change your video settings to ensure you can record Roblox in high quality. You will first need to select where you want your videos to save to, and the recording format. Typically, you will want to use MP4 when recording Roblox. However, you can also use MKV to prevent potential issues with corrupt files. Using this method will require you to remux your recordings to convert them to MP4. Fortunately, this can be done in OBS.
In the video settings you will also need to choose a video encoder. If you have an NVIDIA or AMD graphics card then the best option is to use the H.264 encoder for your GPU. For NVIDIA graphics cards this will be NVIDIA NVENC H.264, while for AMD graphics cards it will be called AMD HW H.264.
With OBS you can also record Roblox with multiple audio tracks. This is particularly useful for content creators as you can have your gameplay and microphone on their own tracks for editing.
Before you can record Roblox you will need to setup your encoder settings. The best options are Constant QP and Constant Bitrate. However, these may be called CQP or CBR in some instances. For the best quality you will want to use a Constant QP level of 16, however, if you are trying to record Roblox on a low end PC then you can use 20. If you are using Constant bitrate then you will need to set the bitrate to 20000 for 1080p, 35000 for 1440p, and 50000 for 4K recordings.
To record Roblox in OBS studio you will need to create a scene and source for your gameplay. The scene is what will be recorded, while the source is how Roblox will be captured in your scene. This allows you to add other sources, such as a camera, on top of your gameplay if you want. You can create new scenes and sources by pressing the plus icon in the respective docks.
You can add Roblox by adding a display, game, or window capture source. A display capture source will capture an entire screen, meaning if you close Roblox or open another window in front of it then it will be recorded as well. Alternatively, a game capture or window capture source will only capture Roblox. I’ve had some issues recording Roblox with game capture, so I recommend using display capture or window capture instead.
When using display capture you will need to select what screen is being captured. If you have multiple screens then be sure to select the one you play Roblox on. When using Window Capture or Game Capture you will need to select the Roblox application using the Window or Application menu. If you are having an issue where Roblox is showing as a white screen then you will need to change the capture method. Typically, using thw Windows 10 option will fix the white screen issue. However, you can also try the BitBit option if it doesn’t work.
To make sure you are recording Roblox correctly you will want to put Roblox into fullscreen mode, and make sure the source fills up the OBS canvas. This can be done by right-clicking on the capture source and choosing Transform then Fit to Screen or Stretch to Screen.
If you want to record Roblox with OBS without leaving Roblox then you can setup a start and stop recording hotkey. You can press your selected hotkey while playing Roblox to control when you are recording.
