How to Speed Up and Slow Down a Video in Premiere Pro CC
Premiere Pro CC gives you the ability to control the speed of a video to speed up or slow down a clip. The speed can be adjusted for the entire video, or for a portion using keyframes. When the speed of a video has been changed the length of the clip will be adjusted in Premiere. Slowing down a video will make the length longer, and speeding up the video will make the layer shorter. This happens because the duration of the video is altered when the clip is sped up or slowed down.
There are multiple ways to speed up and slow down a video in Premiere Pro. Using the Speed/Duration settings you can change the rate of an entire video. When adjusting the speed of a video the duration will also be affected.
With Premiere Pro the speed of a video can also be changed using time remapping. Time remapping allows you to adjust the speed of an entire video, or sections of it. Using keyframes or markers will allow you to ramp up and down the speed of a video. Ramping a video will smoothen the transition between two selected speed points.
Time remapping can be done directly on the layer by expanding the video track height. A line will appear spanning side to side on the track, this is used for time remapping. New markers can be made on this line using the pen tool. Each marker will have two sides, each side can control the overall speed of the clip. Separating the two sides will allow you to fade the speed change in or out.
