HP DV3500 Laptop running Ubuntu 13.04 Gaming with Nvidia 9300M GS
65This is how Ubuntu 13.04 performs on relatively low end hardware. The HP DV3500 Laptop only has an Nvidia 9300M GS graphics card, and a dual core Intel CPU at 2.0GHz.
In this video, I test out Minecraft | Bastion | Counter Strike Source | Counter Strike through Steam on this HP DV3500 laptop.

The conclusion I've reached is that the Proprietary 313 Nvidia drivers are vastly superior compared to the Open Source Gallium3D drivers with Mesa 9.0.2.
However, the Open Source drivers are now enough to play 3D games. So, if using the Proprietary drivers are unavailable to you then the Open Source drivers will work off the bat just fine.
Ubuntu 13.04 32Bit (daily build) was installed on this HP DV3500 Laptop. Besides updating Ubuntu, I only installed OpenJDK 7 and Steam. No other meddling was done. All the games played as is (no hacks no changes).
Verdict:
Ubuntu 13.04 is really well optimized. I can't wait for it's release, I want to use it on my Desktop system. Looks to be great for gaming!
My HP DV3500 Laptop is an OLD MODEL released by HP in 2008, but I purchased it in the middle of 2009. It's not the same as current updated models which may have better hardware.
