00:30 why I am in the gaming category, 1:24 legal definition of commercial use, 3:12 Adrian Von Ziegler example of how to do it right, 4:19 why this is important – two factors, 5:35 visibility, 7:29 example of doing it wrong, 10:36 open communication, 12:09 esports, 13:29 visibility matters to big names as well

I see the question of "can I use music on my Stream?" being asked still. I answered that but mostly focused on what the Artists or Composers can do better

TLDR:

Artists or Composers need a separate clause for Streamers/Content Creators because they technically do qualify as commercial use

@AdrianvonZiegler has great music and is a good example for Composers or Artists to follow. He has a separate clause for Youtube and Twitch which helps navigate the confusing rules

Streamers/Content Creators need two things to legally use music as background noise. That is permission and label information. If an Artist or Composer is part of a label that needs to be known and they will need permission from BOTH the label and Artist or Composer

I didn't mention the name of a Composer but I used them as an example of how to do it wrong. They ignored my attempt to get additional information AND ignored someone else who tried to reach out to them in a business email. If you don't want to get involved that is fine. A simple no thank you will suffice

I mentioned that Composers or Artists need to have a dedicated line of communication for Content Creators/Streamers. If at any point they are made aware of you they will ask for permission if it is not posted already. If you make it difficult to reach you then they will skip you and you miss an opportunity

Some examples were mentioned. I said if you can't use a dedicated email server like what you see with Thunderbird then use Protonmail. Protonmail is secure for an online email service I think

Any Composer or Artist will benefit from increased visibility... Even the big names. To this day there are people who haven't heard of Thomas Bergersen/ @TwoStepsFromHell-Official

On a side note, I do hope Two Steps From Hell does give permission to Streamers/Content Creators. That would be awesome
