My thoughts on the Linus Tech Tips Linux Gaming video
00:17 LTT is a good channel, 1:07 my Linux journey, 4:23 the LTT video – Linux, 5:29 I will be fair, 6:08 I feel like it was not worded properly, 7:55 “the two way street of audio”, 9:31 the streamer side of the street, 10:29 mic solutions other than the Blue Yeti Snowball, 12:07 getting around peripherial software, 15:09 Easy Anti Cheat, 16:08 it is as hard as you make it
Hello. I was recently informed of the LTT video on Linux Gaming. I felt some things wern't worded well or properly mentioned. I have never been the best at communication or relaying my thoughts but I wanted to try and respectfully disagree
TLDR:
I was saying LTT is a good channel. I still gather information or learn from it. I have nothing against them (for now). I wanted to respectfully disagree and point things out. That is all
My Linux journey started in 2015 or 2016 with Ubuntu. I had issues and eventually went to Linux Mint. I still use that. From there I tried Pop OS. Then finally I ended up on Manjaro XFCE and Plasma. That is where I have been since
I felt like the video could come off to other people as Linux is a hard OS to use. I don't want it to come off like that for people as that is not true. Use the right distribution and don't do overly complicated things and you are fine
"The two way street of audio" is my nickname for Streaming. Your viewer experiences will vary based on the device, audio chip involved, and the mic you are using. If your viewer is using a Realtek ALC 887 with a Sennheiser GSP 300, their experience will be different than someone who is using the GSP 300 with the 1200 or 1220. ALC 887 is a budget audio chip for motherboards
I mentioned that according to reviews there is two good USB mics if the Blue Yeti Snowball is picking up too much background noise. That is the Roccat Torch, and Samson G-Track Pro
Getting around peripherial software is as easy as buying something like the Roccat mice which have a built in DPI button and memory. They don't need software to adjust their DPI. Battery percent should register in Manjaro Plasma automatically. If it doesn't, make a mental note of when you turn on the mouse and account for 8 hours of use. Then recharge
I mentioned that Easy Anti Cheat joined Nvidia and Steam/Proton in getting Linux ready for gaming
To finish it, I said that Linux Streaming and gaming is as hard as you make it. If you use USB or Analog, and stick to the out of the box settings (except Proton) you should be fine. I have been for a long time
Don't use two monitors or two drives with Linux as these are at times a known issue with games (according to Proton user reports)
