My thoughts on Meta/Facebook & Future of Platforms
00:36 International system, 1:50 US Military internet jurisdiction, 2:41 problematic people & bots, 4:51 Real ID Policy, 6:40 FB Live Stream, 7:40 my thoughts on Meta, 9:38 future platform thoughts, 12:09 Motorcycle Helmet Safety example
I figured I was already going deep in to unpopular opinion territory so I decided to do a recording to share my thoughts on Meta
TLDR:
I talked about 3 problems that make it difficult to enforce the internet. 1 may still be in place and that is the international reporting system. I know for sure that some US Military bases don't have jurisdiction over the internet on base so they won't act. The other is lack of information to properly report someone offline
Then I talked about Real ID Policy and how it can be good but not in the hands of FB. Real ID Policy is in the FB TOS where it says you must present a student or Government ID if they think you are fake. Yup that is a problem
I talked about how FB Live Streams allow cheaters and hackers in video games to Stream. Plenty of Youtube videos on this issue
After sharing all of that information I gave my thoughts on Meta. It is a case of wrong place wrong time. Also they were unable or unwilling to fix the issues from back then so I doubt they will fix them now
Given that I discussed a lot of the problems I decided to take this further and talk about what I think the future of platforms could be. I think that in order to truly make it safe for all it needs international status of some kind
I gave an example of a Motorcycle Helmet Safety Test that made it to the UN to say that it is entirely possible. Look up FIM if you want to learn more https://www.frhp.org/circuit-helmets/homologated-helmets
