Overall, if you are looking to just play triple-A titles like Call of Duty, Fortnite, and Grand Theft Auto 5, it's much more cost-effective to buy a console and game there. However, if you are looking to more than game such as edit video, live stream, or if you're just a graphics nerd and want the best-looking gaming experience possible, building a PC is still doable and worth it in 2018.
You can even still build a gaming PC on a budget in 2018 you've just got to be smart about it. I recommend using my video on getting graphics card cheap, linked above, in addition to one of my budget build guides, also linked above, to make sure you are getting the best bang-for-your-buck deal when building a PC.
