Kid Chameleon High Scores - The Deadly Skyscrapers (22,430 Points) [WR]
And now for another really hard level! Unfortunately, getting a time of 2:43 on this level hinges mostly on getting good RNG in two places, which can become extremely annoying after many attempts at this level.
The first task is to try to gain as much speed as possible as Cyclone. To do this, it is recommended you jump and bounce off the first Cloud you see. Afterwards, the results can be extremely variable because you have to chain bounce off a Tornado. Now, Tornado spawn locations are based solely on RNG, meaning that in most attempts, the Tornado will not be in the ideal location. In that one lucky attempt (probably like 10% of the time) the tornado will spawn far to the lower left, and you will be able to easily connect to him via bouncing. You will have now gained a huge speed boost.
Tap the C button as fast as possible in order to maximize vertical gain. After being stopped by a couple of rows of shifting blocks, use a diamond power, preferably the 50-diamond Tracking Rain. This may assist you in destroying the next cloud. If the diamonds do not, he is still avoidable. However, you do want the diamonds to destroy the cloud that comes immediately afterward, as it kind of stands in your way. Make your way past him, head up above the shooter-rock block staircase, and through the entrance to the building.
My ascent up the staircase was a little sloppy. I lost at most 18 frames from being stopped by it in two locations, but it thankfully did not affect my final time. Since I captured the flag 26 frames into the 2:43 time, that time loss was inconsequential.
And now for the six stairwell chambers of death. Each one has its own dangers, so be prepared! The 1st chamber has a single sphere which is almost impossible to avoid, unless the Tracking Rain destroys it. In my case it did not. But, since I messed up on the entrance to the building earlier, the sphere progressed further left than usual, so I was able to simply duck under and avoid it.
The 2nd chamber has no dangers other than the fact that Cyclone can actually step over the gap and miss it if unlucky. Try to turn backwards slightly before reaching the stairway to avoid this.
The 3rd chamber has a sphere that just so happens to be crossing over the exit stairwell, just as Cyclone should reach it. Jump over and fall through the stairwell as soon as the sphere passes back to the left.
The 4th chamber has two varieties of sphere patterns. One of them is an instant run-killer. The other, shown in this video, has a perfect sphere pattern, and allows for the fastest progression. Watch out you don't step over the stairwell here, just as in chamber 2!
Chamber 5 is nearly identical to chamber 3.
The 6th and last chamber, if the correct sphere pattern is present (which it usually is), you will immediately land on a sphere, if you are still simply holding left, you will then bounce off another sphere, and you will gain a huge speed boost. Hold right immediately after bouncing off of it to halt your horizontal momentum, and simply drop to the flag, hopefully at 2:43.
A TAS could undoubtedly get this time much lower, but as far as RTA goes, this is as best of a score of what I have the sanity for XD Anybody else wishing to attempt to highscore this level will know immediately how I feel when trying to wait for a good pattern on that first Tornado, as well as all the other RNG-dependent moments in this level.
