Knuckles in Sonic 2 speed run [15:58]
It's a Sonic 2 double whammy today! As far as I know this is the world record for Knuckles in Sonic 2, 15 minutes and 58 seconds in-game time. I've also uploaded my Sonic record here: http://youtu.be/r7Kv8rvyRko
Everyone's going to ask about Casino Night 2, so I'll do my best to explain it here. Doing this correctly consists of three parts: first, you have to glide on one specific frame to clip behind the speed shoe box like that. Second, you pray. You need to tap right against the speed shoe box, spindash to break it and fall, then spindash twice more, and finally hold right. But that's not all: sometimes you will be pushed up in the wall when you press right (the correct result) and sometimes you'll be pushed down into a part of the wall you can't escape from. Aglar (the TASer of this game) explained it to me by saying it's dependent on your -subpixel- position. I am totally serious. In practical terms this means that there is a 3/8 chance of being pushed down and a 5/8 chance of being able to zip correctly. The last part of the glitch is making sure that you hold right for the correct amount of frames. There are five frames where you can release right and the level wrap will work, holding for 9 or 10 frames (the first two frames after you exit the wall) or 14-16 frames. In this case I was really lucky because I paused way later than usual and it just happened to be on one of the later three frames!
Metropolis 2 has a similar final zip, but is overall much easier. Again, I pause to make sure I've held right for exactly long enough (this one actually has a 4-frame window).
Any other questions, just ask!
