Kunio Sports #4 (PS4) I finally learn how to do power throws 100% of the time!
Okay so at about 10:00 in this video I finally figured out how to do power throws like pretty much every time in the NES version (this here specifically is the "QualityUp" NES version in "Kunio-kun: The World Classics Collection" on PS4) of Super Dodge Ball. I mean, my brother and I had this game on the NES back in the day and I don't think we ever really realized how to do this; I always thought it was something to do with timing your button press for exactly the right time in your run or jump. And that does seem to be what you have to do in the *arcade* version (the Arcade Archives Super Dodge Ball version on PS4, anyway)--but not the NES version.
For the NES version, to get a power throw to come out, you just mash the throw button. Yep. Mash it. Hit it two or three times quickly. And out comes the power throw! This works for both running and jumping throws with your infield characters.
This got me through the rest of the game easily, and even the secret "mirror match" (starts at 14:27 -- warning: lots of background "lightning" flashing through this whole match : P) ending that happens when you beat the rest of the game without having lost an infield player.
Now maybe I don't ever have to play Super Dodge Ball again. : P I mean, there's a lot that's really appealing about the game--oh man, and the music is so well done--but the colors used in some of the stages are a little rough on the eyes, and the basic gameplay, vs the cpu, anyway, can be pretty frustrating when they're just catching everything; I guess passing around the edges is supposed to help crack a player's defense, but that has never really worked against the CPU, so it feels pretty pointless.
