Late-Game Minecraft 248 :: Geode with Rails
Venturing into the big ravine, we find an amethyst geode! Breaking into the geode, we are surprised to see minecart rails leading right into its centre. We follow the rails into an abandoned mineshaft, where we find more glow berries and diamonds! We are not sure where is the way out though!
We have updated our world to 1.17.1, which means less emerald ore and more diamonds! Come to think of it, it was quite lucky that we had already found some deepslate emerald ore, since it may be more difficult to do so in this patch! The changes would only affect new chunks though!
Gliding down into the ravine, we mine some coal before going back to the chests that we had set up on the mountains! We store our items in the chest before flying up to a nearby peak. Here, we use our spyglass to inspect the terrain beneath!
We return to the ravine where a side cave catches our attention! The cave goes straight down, parallel to the steep walls of the ravine. As we venture downwards, we carve out a small staircase so we can easily climb back out later!
Past a lava stream, we find a dead end with some dripstone and smooth basalt! We also hear zombies in the walls. This makes us quite excited, because smooth basalt only generates around amethyst geodes! We start mining our way into the geode.
Carefully, we mine away the amethyst, trying not to break any budding amethyst blocks! Seeing that there is a natural opening to the geode, we patch up the hole and mine a tunnel towards the opening instead. After slaying the zombies, we notice that some rails are leading into the geode!
Seems like an abandoned mineshaft has generated in the same location. We also realise that we are quite close to bedrock, due to the presence of deepslate and redstone ore! We place down some torches to prevent mobs from spawning before mining some copper!
Then, we sleep and start to explore the abandoned mineshaft. We quickly find a chest in a minecart around a corner! As the area seems dangerous, we leave it behind for now. Eventually, we find our way to a ravine!
We hear a zombie villager close to us and look around for him. There are many mobs below us in the ravine so we have to be careful! The zombie villager finds us as we place down a Shulker box beside another minecart chest!
We throw down a piece of rotten flesh, but the zombie cannot pick up items! Since we are far from our base, we decide not to waste a name tag and put him out of his misery. We check the chest to find many glow berries!
Hearing zombies all around us, we take caution as we venture into the unlit shafts! After slaying an Enderman and some zombies, we come to a rectangular room with a dirt floor. So far, we are very glad that we have not encountered too many creepers!
At a small room with two levels, we remove the ledges and the wooden pillars so mobs cannot spawn above us! Coming to a lava lake, a zombie approaches us from a cave above! The zombie cannot reach us due to the lava, fortunately. We carefully make a bridge across and slay the zombie!
Further ahead, we find a cave spider spawner! The cobwebs help us to take out a creeper. After lighting up the spawner, we look around for spiders in the surrounding mineshafts! We find many of them on the ceiling, hidden within some small gaps.
Back in the ravine, we notice some deepslate diamond ore on the floor! We head into another mineshaft section where we come face to face with a creeper. We still hear spiders around us, but we are not sure where they are! The area seems quite safe though, so we stop to organise our items.
Later, we return to the ravine and start to light it up! There does not seem to be many mobs here, much to our surprise. We mine the deepslate diamonds, placing down some water as a precaution against lava! Then, we light up the rest of the ravine floor.
As we are placing torches, a zombie drops down from above which startles us! We retreat into a mineshaft tunnel where we find some diamond ore! Entering another cave section, we find some glow ink sacs next to a stream of water.
We stop and eat at the edge of the ravine, which was a bad idea as a skeleton drops down from above! That was definitely an unnecessary risk to take. We see another cave on the other side and glide down to it, but end up reaching the bottom of the ravine instead!
We come to another room of the mineshaft with two floors, and remove the ledges again! Now that we have been underground for a while, we start looking for an exit. We travel down a tunnel that seems to lead upwards, but it comes to a dead end!
Returning back to the ravine, we find that we are now near the top! We decide to head in another direction and see what we can find. Near a lava lake, we find an entrance to the abandoned mineshafts where there is a chest! We loot it before ending the episode.
