Lenovo IdeaPad Y410p - Ryse: Son of Rome Performance Test
This game was an Xbox One exclusive, but now it has hit the PC. It's probably one of the most gorgeous-looking game to ever come out to date. It runs on CryEngine, after all (I mean, just look at Psycho's character model in Crysis 3). The word that's been going around about it, however, is that it's just a pretty face with little to no depth. I think this is entirely debatable because people have different tastes. If you enjoy more realistic melee combat mechanics ala-Troy (you know, the Brad Pitt movie) then you'll like this. I personally enjoyed playing it myself despite the somewhat repetitive action and very limited NPC models.
The game is fairly playable (if you can stomach a framerate between high teens and high 20s), considering the minimum GPU requirement is quite high. Then again, we're already on next-gen and a GTX 560 is considered an "okay" card in desktop terms. Also, this is CryEngine we're talking about and that usually entails a pretty good GPU to generate a pleasing framerate.
Laptop GPUs are dominantly non-upgradeable, so the most common way to increase a game's playability on a notebook is to turn the graphics settings down. Fortunately, the game still looks prettier than most titles when everything is set on Low. The game also allows modification of the internal resolution, so you can set it to 70% or 80% native for better performance if you're fine with that. The game appears to be choosing the right match of texture quality for your GPU and you can't touch it. Some people find motion blur inappropriate in games, but I like it. Had to turn it off, though, because the game crashes more frequently when I leave it on.
A driver update from Nvidia may improve how well the game runs, but I wouldn't be too optimistic about it. Buuuuuut I'm still crossing my fingers that it helps.
