Let’s Play EoTB 3 #22: Behold, the Blade of Plot!
It’s common for works of fiction to foreshadow later plot points. Not only does it aid in world building, it helps to tie events together and give the story better cohesion. It’s also great for letting you know of powerful items that you’ll most certainly be getting at a later date, drip feeding you tales of awesomeness made possible with said item as you get further through the game. Done well, this makes finally getting the item in question an awe-inspiring moment of awesome, the culmination of a lot of hard work.
In Eye of the Beholder 2, we slowly collected pieces of a sword that we reforged to use against Dran Dragore and while it was a powerful blade indeed, the +5 longsword we got from the first game was technically better in terms of raw enhancement. That Dran Dragore’s only weakness was the blade we forged didn’t make much sense mechanically, but it did mean we had an epic confrontation with him.
You may have realised that the awesome item for this game is the Dhauzimmer, a powerful blade used to defend Myth Drannor in the distance past. Fflar wielded it to great effect and it’d surely be a mighty weapon to use against the dark god, should we manage to find it. I say ‘should’ but really ‘when’ is more appropriate, as why would the game hint at the weapon so if we weren’t going to get it? The only question is ‘how’ and considering that we have a god literally supporting us in our efforts, I have a good idea on that too.
