We're into World 5 now, and things have started to pick up a bit...this is right about where the difficulty curve seems to turn upward a bit more. Not a huge spike, but still... This is Fungus Forest, though despite the name, it doesn't contain all that many mushrooms. (And of the mushrooms it does have, not one is used as a platform...a Fungus Forest 5 involving bouncy mushrooms in an athletic level or something would have fit well here.) Fungus Forest 1/5-1 is either fairly annoying or rather fun, depending on how good you are at dealing with the enemies (and jumping, I suppose). It introduces bouncing green Fuzzies that I'm not actually sure show up in any other level. They jump at one of three possible heights and alternate between them, though I don't know why I didn't notice their pattern sooner...they're pretty easy to deal with once you're familiar with them, but not so much if you're not. There are also plenty of Spinies to deal with, including ones thrown by Lakitu and his pipe-dwelling brethren (though the latter are really pretty easy enemies and usually never even get a chance to attack). Fungus Forest 2/5-2 can get a bit tricky. It takes place high in the treetops on logs and falling leaves, and it auto-scrolls. Be very careful with timing jumps here... Fungus Forest 3/5-3 is a bit easier, though. We're back to terra firma in this level, only it's nighttime and the enemies are hopping flames, Wigglers, and Venus Fire Traps. Nothing to worry too much about, though.
