Let's Play Mega Man 4 - Part 15: Deja Vu Les Robot Masters
We're at Wily Stage 3 now! There's not much to this one, just a short vertical hallway, the boss rematches, and the battle with Dr. Wily and his machine. Of course, as I said, this is the stage with the boss rematches, so it has that going for it. A brief description of each Robot Master battle now that I have all the weapons:
- Drill Man: He can still be a bit irritating, but just keep firing the Dive Missile at him. Its homing A.I. isn't perfect or anything, but it will do 3 damage to him per hit.
- Bright Man: He goes down fairly easily to the Rain Flush, but be careful...he can still use his Flash Stopper if you're not careful (shoot him once with the Mega Buster to bypass all of the critical numbers), the weapon has a slow firing rate, and you have just enough ammo to take him out with it.
- Skull Man: Basically the same fight as before, except now we have the Dust Crusher to beat him a bit more quickly.
- Dive Man: He is weak to the Skull Crusher, but it's actually quite a pain to use on him. While it does do 4 damage to him, it's almost as likely to kill you as him because of its short range. Shield weapon and fast Robot Master...not a good combination.
- Toad Man: What's even easier than a boss that can be beaten by simply standing there and shooting him 28 times? A boss that can be beaten by simply standing there and shooting him 7 times! The Drill Bomb makes this fight go by REALLY fast, but it's kind of overkill.
- Dust Man: He's easy with the Mega Buster and even easier with his weakness, the Ring Boomerang, though using it does oblige you to stand a bit closer to him.
- Ring Man: The fully-charged Pharaoh Shot does a whole 6 damage to him if you can hit him with it (uncharged, it's only 2), but in this fight, I would recommend prioritizing dodging over attacking...i.e., don't do like I did.
- Pharaoh Man: The Flash Stopper doesn't actually damage him (unlike the Time Stopper in Mega Man 2), but it does completely freeze him and all of his projectiles in their tracks while you pump him full of pellet shots. He's crippled pretty badly by his weakness.
After all of the Robot Masters are down for the count, it's time to fight Dr. Wily. He likes to shoot large purple blasts out of the front of his machine. The first part of the battle is fairly simple, but the second half has him firing more shots a bit more erratically and decreases his vulnerable hitbox to slightly smaller than Mega Man's head. You can just barely reach it with fully-charged Mega Buster shots, so I prefer to use his weakness, the Drill Bomb. You can actually detonate the bombs early by pressing the fire button while one is already out, which makes it much easier to hit that tiny little green orb. His first form does have a weakness as well, but I don't usually use it. (I actually had to look up what it was, in fact....) His first form is weak to the Pharaoh Shot, but its does no more damage than the Mega Buster's, not to mention (spoilers!) you'll need that weapon later.... Of course, Wily gets away again, and we have to go chase him down in one more stage.
