Let's Play Pillars of Eternity [8] - Shadows with Salt
Hey look, it's another video of me playing Pillars of Eternity and commentating all over the gameplay. Yes, all over the gameplay. Who would have expected an eight after the first seven?
I just want you to know that what follows is a salt-induced rant about Pillars of Eternity caused by flashbacks to the Temple of Eothas, and possibly insinuates that this game features gameplay that I dislike. That is untrue, and is not my intention. I love Pillars of Eternity so far. The story, the plot, the narrative, the characters, the writing, the setting, the... Yes, even the combat. I know it's pausable realtime, but it's pretty darn fun. So my point is, I do think that maybe the shadows are a little jerky, but Pillars of Eternity is not too difficult once you get past them. So it's one area that I had a problem with (maybe not everyone did). And later on I think the combat actually becomes a little too easy, if anything.
In this episode we descend further down into the Temple of Eothas. Unlike the first floor, which just had some spiders and skuldrs in it, the second floor of the temple is filled with Shadows. These Shadows have incredible damage reduction and deflection scores, so good luck dealing any appreciable amount of damage to them. The shadows also seem to be able to avoid engagement attacks, and can teleport directly to your squishy ranged units. In our case, they often bypass our Barbarian, and strike directly at our Cipher and Wizard. Also, it doesn't even seem to matter because our Barbarian gets tossed around like a sack of potatoes at a Latvian Barmitzvah. Whose idea was it to put this dungeon in the middle of Gilded Vale? The first gosh darn town you visit in Pillars of Eternity?
Despite our troubles, I assure you that, where I'm at now in Pillars of Eternity, I am steamrolling the game. Like, it's no joke how good our party is at combat, and I actually think Pillars of Eternity is a little too easy on normal mode. That said, these Shadows are still real jerky. Come on Obsidian, it's not fair!
