Let's Play Spec Ops: The Line | Chapter 1: The Evacuation | Prologue
1Welcome to Spec Ops: The Line, a soft reboot of the Spec Ops franchise that changes up the formula, turning a series that was originally meant to be a tactical shooter into a narrative masterpiece. While the game still has remnants of its Tactical Shooter roots, the gameplay focuses far more on the story of Captain Martin Walker, who enters a war-torn Dubai in order to rescue a man he admires, John Konrad, after an evacuation mission involving the 33rd Mountain Battalion goes awry. What they find waiting for them in Dubai sets the stage for an explorative and less-mentioned side of warfare that is seldom seen or talked about.
The story picks up with Captain Martin Walker hiking into Dubai over sand dunes with a couple of other fellow Delta Force soldiers on a mission to provide reconnaissance on the situation in the war-torn city, where sandstorms knocked out the local infrastructure and means of survival, toppling civilisation as we know it. Their primary mission is establishing contact with Lieutenant Colonel John Konrad, who has been unreachable ever since he went in to evacuate the city.
As soon as they enter the premises of Dubai, they are greeted by the sight of friendly blood in a field camp before they are ambushed by a bunch of locals, changing the situation from a Reconnaissance situation to a Rescue Mission.
This is the point where they intercept a distress call from a surviving faction of the 33rd Mountain, Lt. Col. John Konrad's force. Fighting their way through heavy enemy resistance, they find the members of the 33rd being held hostage inside a crashed aeroplane.
Infiltrating their way inside the sand-filled airship, they manage to rescue one soldier in bad condition. Before passing away, the soldier informs them of how the rest of the soldiers have taken shelter in a place known as The Nest and that to get there, they must follow the tracks left in the sand.
