Let's Play God of War II [PCSX2] | Chapter 9: Palace of the Fates | Auditorium of Lahkesis
Welcome back to God of War II, an action-adventure game developed by Sony for the PlayStation 2. The game features Kratos, who had slain Ares to become the new God of War, being subject to an act of betrayal at the hands of Zeus, the King of the Olympians, himself. Now, Kratos entails the aid of the Titans to embark on a mission of vengeance against the King of all Gods. The game primarily revolves around hacking and slashing through a variety of enemies while taking down gargantuan bosses and also features platforming as well as puzzle sections. We are playing this game on the PCSX2, which is an emulator for the Sony PlayStation 2.
As soon as Kratos crossed the Great Chasm, he was greeted with a hostile welcome by an enthusiastic and overwhelming party, vehement in their pursuit of his head. It primarily comprised of Kobolds, Cyclops, and Hipolytes. But Kratos dug within him to find the Rage of the Titans and put a gruesome end to them all.
He then addressed the entrance to the palace by rotating the external gates until the entrance was unsealed. Within was a floor full of holes and another series of barred-off walls with elements of a puzzle behind them. There was a lever in the middle, presumably in place to activate the rotating contraption of death. Upon pulling the lever, it disappeared under the ground to be replaced by a floor full of holes from which spikes threatened to shoot upwards and impale the God of War. With a bit of timing and navigation, Kratos managed to find a turnkey and use a block to stop the mechanism that enabled him to pass further into the castle.
Once inside, he saw the same man that he had seen before still fending off monsters guarding the Island of Creation. Kratos travelled onward to find a curious scene with only one way forward. Choosing that way, he found himself in front of a book written in a language that he could not understand. He noticed a man sitting in worship not far away. He carried the man out of his seat and began taking him to the book when he was ambushed by the protectors of the island. Kratos defeated all the inhabitants while protecting the translator from harm.
Upon making the translator read the book, it turned out that the book had an incantation on it that called for a sacrifice of blood so that the spire may open to visitors. Lahkesis's spirit emerged in front of Kratros and guided him further along the way.
With the Horn of the Ram that Kratos had recently obtained, he made his way into the second path before him and found himself in an oven where he had to sacrifice sirens to proceed only to walk into a chamber full of ice that he had to thaw using mirrors and the power of the sun as well as a fire-breathing eagle in the centre. He then proceeded ahead to find some Cerberus and Centurions and finally find the second translator.
This one was not as pliable and eager to sacrifice himself in a way that would not benefit the Ghost of Sparta. He threw himself off the cliff before Kratos could get to him. However, Kratos noticed a mirror of time in front of him and went through it to when the man was still in front of him and used the Amulet of the Fates to slow down time enough to where he could catch the man and make him read the book he was meant to read and sacrificed him on the appropriate altar to finally obtain the skull of the warrior.
Now back at the main balcony of the theatre, he used the Warrior's Skull to open the path to his next destination. The spire is now open to visitors. But Kratos still requires a means to get there.
