Let's Play The Banner Saga [Part 32] - The Slayer and the Slain

Some endgame gameplay from The Banner Saga in this video. that's right, we make some massive narrative progress and move into the final chapter of The Banner Saga's story, entitled The Slayer and the Slain.

Speaking of the method of story telling that involves breaking the game into chapters, I used to to think that the chapters were just a way of delineating the narrative by way of the POV characters. For example, you might control Rook in one chapter and Hakon in the other, but that doesn't seem to be the case. We've had subsequent chapters featuring the same POV character (Rook), and we've even seen one example in The Banner Saga where we switched between POV characters within the same chapter of the storyline (Juno to Rook). This makes me wonder what the purpose was of these chapters. Well whatever it was, I'm sure the talented team of writers and designers at Stoic had their reasons.

Back to the issue at hand, the reason of the chapter changeover was that we finally arrived at our destination: The city of Boersgard, which is where we decided to head after leaving Sigrholm when Juno never showed up. If you don't know what these places are, that's okay. The Banner Saga is a game of complicated Nordic sounding names, and the lore and back story is not for us mere mortals to understand. The gameplay, though. Even we can understand The Banner Saga's gameplay. Tactical (but not tacticoool), turn based (but not turn basic), squad based (but not squid based). What's not to love about the gameplay. Actually, I just not realized that I only described the combat, and there is more to the gameplay in the form of dialogue choices, which are inextricably tied to the narrative, which in turn draws from the lore and the back story, so I guess I'm just a goofus.
