Let's Play Pillars of Eternity [38] - Lighthouse
A week later, and we're back with Pillars of Eternity gameplay. Haha! So we're still in Ondra's Gift in the City of Defiance Bay in this episode, and we're still goofing off doing sidequests instead of the main storyline, but it's for a good cause I swear.
We have picked up a few side quests already, like trying to find a kid named Derrin and trying to find a rod of animancy. However, in this episode we continue exploring and hear some companion dialogue, which is cool. It helps establish character anyway. More importantly, we speak with woman called Niah just outside of the lighthouse in Ondra's Gift. She says she wants to renovate the property but there are rumors of ghosts afoot so all the builders are too scared to do anything about it. And because Pillars of Eternity in an RPG and every RPG seems to use this gameplay mechanic, she asks us, the random adventurers passing by, to solve her problem for her.
Luckily for Niah, that's kind of exactly the reason I'm combing through every inch of this city with the video game equivalent of a fine-toothed comb. It's automatic at this point. Must complete all sidequests. Must discover all back story and lore. Must talk to all NPCs. I'm like some kind of dorky Terminator, who plays Pillars of Eternity. I wonder if the Terminators would enjoy story-based crpgs with real time with pause gameplay. If they do, I'd recommend Planescape Torment and NWN2: Mask of the Betrayer. You thought I was going to say Pillars of Eternity, didn't you?
Anyway, this description has gone on for very long without me even mentioning the bulk of the contents of this episode of my Pillars of Eternity LP. It's combat. Glorious battle! The very same pausable realtime gameplay I mentioned last paragraph. Now, I've said before that I though the gameplay in Pillars of Eternity was a little on the easy side, excepting the Temple of Eothas back in Gilded Vale. The main reasons that was hard was because of those jerkintosh Shadows or Shades or whatever they're called, which were totally OP. Well, they're back, and they're just as OP as before. They're inside the lighthouse and we have to fight them because the level designers of Pillars of Eternity need more sodium in their diets and the only way they can get it is by making all the players exceedingly salty.
