Let's Play The Elder Scrolls Daggerfall - Part 2 - The Enterprise Has Found a Colony of Bears
Ignore what I say at the beginning, I am actually planning on continuing this.
So, I managed to mess up horribly. Once upon a time I set up OBS hotkeys, only to never use them and instead talk at the black screen where I would start/stop recordings. Forgetting completely about the fact that I had buttons set up on keys that normally aren't used in games, I decided in Daggerfall to bind my keys to stuff not normally used since I couldn't just unbind it. Needless to say, that ended the recording right after starting, meaning we lost six hours or so of footage. Trying to pick ourselves up, this stream was basically to get through everything we already saw (well, I saw, since the videos are gone) so that we can move forward.
Since I did all of this yesterday and don't really feel like seeing it all again so soon, I am a bit quicker paced than I normally would be, reading relatively fast all the backstory stuff and overall just trying to make our journey to new stuff rather efficient. Luckily the practice from the previous time also means that I have some idea what I am doing, even if the mechanics are still quite frustrating.
We also get taught how to play the game here. By that I mean we get to see some tutorial messages that are way behind what I am currently doing. Also note that they tell you they will be right back, then disappear while we have to figure out most of the important things for ourselves. We get a tutorial on how to save, but not on how to heal.
The interesting thing about healing is that it doesn't appear to cause random encounters, I can actually rest in any room without danger and get full health. This is quite a shock after the whole incident with Arena and its encounters, I think I will never stop looking at raised surfaces as safe spots.
Also, even though this is the first video of essentially a new playthrough, we are already getting massive glitches. The sound is absolutely horrible here, getting completely choppy and breaking up most things to be barely audible. The game seems to do this totally at random. It also might make random buzzing sounds.
We also get to check out the amazing stuff on our person such as a Wagon button (just needs a Wagon to do the Oregon Trail), a Remove button (to remove items from the ground, the only way it should be done), and a Spellbook (made to confuse us non-spellcasters).
Eventually we get to read some of the lore of the game. It involves an Ox being saved from a mad farmer, as accounted for by a raccoon. Somehow this is related to the wombat who the king liked to lick and stick to walls, who brought them a weapon shop in front of their castle and forced them into cannibalism. The game developers appear to be quite sane people, writing about the usual stuff you would see in lore books.
We then blunder around aimlessly while wacking pretty ladies. Another important change from Arena is that they all have huge tracts of land now, all conveniently pretty visible due to the fact that they wear clothes made for summer in the middle of a blizzard. Their faces just might not be the prettiest, especially since they are all in-bred or bears. For some reason many pretty ladies turn out to be seven foot tall bears, not sure why. Bears are a major feature of this game.
Eventually we work our way through the Privateer's Hold and make it outside, where we get the ability to travel to Daggerfall. The map system is a lot more confusing and complex than Arena, basically you just want to ignore the whole thing and type in the place you want to go exactly as it is written. You know, when you make it so the map is totally useless, that is probably a bad design choice. We also decide to ride around recklessly and see what happens (hint, nothing).
We then get all the normal stuff found in Daggerfall. A sign talking about potentially hanging us, ripped off music and sprites from Elder Scrolls Arena, and guys which are oddly enough not pretty ladies. We also find a lady jester, which shows just how progressive this place is.
We then wander around and find three more inns that are much like the first inn. We definitely have enough places to get drunk in the game! We end this part as we push forward further into the town, trying to find something that won't sell me beer and get me drunk.
