177Though it seems like we’ve already achieved a lot in our efforts to stop the infernal forces from attacking Earth again, that is far from the case. We could spend eternity battling our foes and it all be for naught if that final portal remains open, allowing a never-ending invasion that puts the initial attack in Doom II to shame. While it’s likely that the governments of the world are already putting in motion plans to evacuate the planet again just in case, there’s every chance that our enemies know of this and won’t give them the chance to this time around.
The further our nameless marine gets into the UAC facility, the less it’s going to look like we’re in the facility, such is the corrupting nature of our foe. Their presence twists the landscape into a mockery of itself that chills the bone, but we can’t let that distract us from what we need to do. What will distract us is the many arenas and traps we’ll be flung into, forced to fight for our very survival in territory that’s becoming less and less familiar as time goes on. Our enemies may have numbers and ferocity but we have the ultimate counters: tenacity and unlimited retries. While I hope I won’t need to use the latter so much, I’m sure you’ll well aware of what this game is like at this point to understand that it will be an inevitability at times.
