Historically, the dungeons of Britannia have been very dangerous places. Large, trap-filled and often occupied with lots of dangerous enemies, many a foolhardy adventurer has entered them seeking fame and riches and never returned. Dependant upon which game you’re playing, they are either mandatory dungeon delves or optional challenges for extra loot and experience but in both instances they aren’t to be taken lightly.

In Ultima IX they are mandatory to complete the game, so it makes sense that the first of them we have to explore is the easiest. Despise acts as a very gentle tutorial on what to expect in the more challenging dungeons to come, letting you grow accustomed to the platforming, combat and puzzle solving that will become crucial later on. There are no foes in here you won’t have met before on the way to the dungeon and healing is plentiful within. There’s also some very desirable treasure to seek out, some of which is hidden behind exploration and other bits requiring you to either stumble across it by accident or look up its location beforehand. None of it is strictly necessary but the ‘main’ treasure will be very useful to the Avatar considering his chosen profession.
