Let's Replay Stonekeep Extra #02: Drake Tests Stonekeep's Linearity
Many games present a linear plot to you, giving you no choice as to how certain events play out; you have to go to one particular area after clearing the first, you have to take certain people with you and you have to complete certain quests, else the game won't progress. Stonekeep is no exception, it being a dungeon crawler where you navigate not by using a central hub, but through clearing one level to reach the next. It does open up a little more later on in terms of places you can go, who you have in your party and the ending, not to mention you can focus on different skills in different playthroughs. Ultimately however, the game has a linear story and you can't do much to deviate from it.
Or can you?
This video aims to show a few instances of what happens if you don't do what the game expects you to. The aim is to see if the creators of Stonekeep accommodated for these actions, rewarding your choices with different dialogue or other consequences. Sometimes these differences are superficial or extremely minor, other times they're major; Lands of Lore 2 has an entirely different type of playthrough you can stumble across by acting a certain way to everyone you meet, with significant differences to the plot and entirely new endings for those determined enough to pursue it.
In this video, we're going to look at two questions:
1) Is it possible to attack Farli before you recruit him and kill him?2) Is it possible to attack Wahooka and kill him?
I'll say right now that neither of these are a good idea for obvious reasons, but especially Wahooka. You'll find out why a lot later in the game, but for now let's throw caution into the wind - as well as a couple of arrows and an axe - and see what happens, shall we?
