177It’s at this point in the game that you start to get some of the heavier weapons in your arsenal, allowing you to take on more difficult foes or larger groups of weaker ones. Said weapons can be found earlier on if you’re observant and diligently check PDAs for locker combinations but you don’t tend to get too much ammo for them until they show up normally. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t use them, especially in this version of the game; resources are there to be utilised, after all.
We’re going to see a lot of series staples for the heavier ordinance which makes you wonder just how we’re able to carry all of this at once. This game game out a couple of years after Halo which began the trend of limiting the number of weapons you could carry at any one time. Doom 3 decided to eschew that in favour of the more traditional ‘store everything in your magic pocket of infinite space and no weight’ which works well for this game. Both systems have their perks and flaws but for Doom, being a walking arsenal is part of the fun.
