Let’s Replay Doom II #16: Chasms of Chaos
A lot of the levels in the latter part of the game are compact, cramped and full of enemies in tricky positions for you to deal with. Such levels are full of frantic movement, short and intense moments of battle and the need for great levels of awareness of your surroundings. The Chasm therefore comes as a bit of a surprise to many, being a cavernous location with enemies spaced out and the frantic action replaced with precise platforming.
The platforming is a danger all its own as all the floor beneath you damages you and the teleporters to escape it are scattered far apart. Enemies are cleverly placed to make navigating the narrow pathways challenging but for those that can quickly and carefully move about on them, the level isn’t too bad. You can strafe a tiny bit on them but I wouldn’t recommend it and always remember that most enemy projectiles knock you back, putting you at risk of being pushed into the sludge below. Remember all that and the level shouldn’t be too difficult, luck notwithstanding.
