Cryssalids are somewhat easier to fight during the day as most of the aliens are, but there are some tactics you can employ to better improve your chances of success against them. First and most importantly, never send a soldier anywhere alone. If they fail to take reaction shots agains the crysallid or are snuck up on from behind, a lone soldier is doomed. Keep soldiers in pairs at a minimum and ideally in groups of three or greater so they can cover each other. Second, remember that smoke can conceal your squad from sight and that includes the gaze of the cryssalid. Provided they don’t already know where your soldiers are, they won’t ush to attack people concealed in smoke, but beware the double edged sword that is this cover; they can hide just as easily in it as well.

If you find a good place to defend from, move as much of your squad as you can to there and hold it and if have a choice between killing a cryssalid and a zombie, take out the cryssalid first. The zombies are slow and lack ranged attacks, though their melee strikes pack a punch. Be sure to deal with any snakemen that are around as well, though it’s always a good idea to take care of the cryssalids you see before them. Also remember that tanks can’t be zombified, though they’re not likely to survive more than one hit from a cryssalid’s claws.

It may not need to be said, but don’t try to take a cryssalid alive with a stun rod. You really don’t want to get hit by their ‘reaction fire’.

All this advice will go some way to deal with you survive a terror mission like this, though tactics will only get you so far. Luck has its part to play and in the end, you’re trying to make a bad situation less bad. Very rarely is it that a terror mission with these foes goes well, but once in a blue moon it happens. Cherish those times, for they’re like gold dust.
