Let's Replay X-COM UFO Defence #16: The Sun Sets on Hope
Up till now we’ve had thing pretty easy, even if it hasn’t looked that way. Sure, the first terror was super difficult but things have gotten easier as we’ve researched more things and got better soldiers. We’re slowly inching towards figuring out how to use some of the weapons the aliens use, allowing us to truly turn the tables on them in battle. We may even be able to use what we’ve learned to scale up the technology for our interceptors, but that’ll take a long time indeed to figure out. Our bases aren’t doing badly and a third one is on the way and all the while, the council of funding nations quite like what we’re doing. You’d be mistaken for thinking the future looks bright for X-COM and the fight against the aliens.
This is not true.
There is a horror that we have not yet witnessed, something that we’ve been fortunate enough to not encounter in our terror missions. You see, each terror mission has one standard alien and its corresponding terror unit. The reapers that fight alongside the floaters aren’t bad provided you keep your distance and the cyberdisc, while powerful, can be taken out with enough focus fire. There are however far more aliens that we haven’t yet encountered, aliens so much more deadly than what we’ve seen. One such alien are the snakemen. They themselves aren’t too dangerous; they’re unable to fly like floaters and lack the psionic powers of some sectoids, instead being generally tougher and more accurate. They’re not the problem however, it’s what comes with them in a terror mission.
Those who have played the game before know of what I speak. Those who have not will see soon enough and learn of true terror.
