This is the longplay of the game Cliffhanger, a beat 'n up and platform game based on the movie of the same name and released in 1993 for several consoles, exclusively in the United States. This is the SNES version.
The game follows the script of the film, which is based on the concept of climber John Long. Cliffhanger's protagonist is Gabe (played by Sylvester Stallone, co-writer of the script), a climber who feels guilty and sad about the death of Sarah, the girlfriend of his best friend Hal Tucker. Faced with this big hit, Gabe decides to retire from mountaineering. A year after the event, however, he is called to rescue a group in distress in the Rocky Mountains. The mission, however, soon turns out to be a trap: Gabe is lured there by a band of terrorists led by Eric Qualen, a psychotic former British military intelligence officer, who tries to steal $100 million from the US Treasury.
Just like in the movie, the game takes place in a mountainous setting covered with snow and traps. In the game, our hero Gabe can punch, kick and use knives and firearms to fight enemies, in addition to having several sessions where it is necessary to climb the steepest places in the Rocky Mountains, while Gabe has to fight against the Qualen's henchmen.
It's a very challenging game and relatively faithful to the movie. The knife proves to be a great weapon when wielded by Gabe, as it allows for an efficient attack range. The platform and climbing parts require care to avoid death in the cold mountains.
