This is the longplay of Advanced Busterhawk Gleylancer, or simply Gleylancer, a 1992 scrolling shooter video game developed and published by Masaya exclusively for the Sega Genesis.
The story follows Lucia, a 16-year-old fighter pilot in the Earth Federation. A war breaks out between humans and an unknown alien race in the year 2025. Lucia's father Ken, a high-ranking admiral in the Federation Navy, is captured after his ship is taken out of the combat zone with four alien modules that have the ability to teleport. Lucia, after hearing about her father's disappearance, decides to hijack the prototype CSH-01-XA "Gley Lancer" fighter with the help of her friend Teim and go after her father.
Gameplay in Gley Lancer is similar to most Mega Drive shoot 'em up games. When starting, you can choose between the following artillery: Normal, Reverse, Search, Multi, Multi-R, Shadow and Roll, each with its own characteristics.
During the game, the ship can switch between four different speeds to adapt to certain situations. This is always done in a 1-2-3-4-3-2 repeating order, although the starting point can be chosen in the game options. It is also possible to pick up items that modify the ship's shots and each item gives a different type of power.
It is a very good and frantic game, with excellent graphics and music. The story is told through manga-style panel illustrations, similar to Phantasy Star IV or Gaiares. This game was only released in Japan in 1992, but received a re-release on the Virtual Console in 2008 and was also translated into English by fans. This is the fully translated version into English.
