Original Game by: Id Software
Source Port: DSDA-Doom

Doom 1 was originally a shareware game. You could get the first episode (Knee-Deep in the Dead) for free, and if you liked it, you could buy the full game containing the next two episodes. After Id made Doom 2, they rereleased Doom 1 as “The Ultimate Doom,” a version containing all three episodes on one disc, with a new fourth episode to sweeten the deal. The maps were made by assorted Doom 2 staff, possibly explaining why there’s less cohesion among them.
Thy Flesh Consumed takes place between Doom 1 and Doom 2. Doomguy has returned to Earth only to find the Earth in the middle of a demonic invasion, and his pet rabbit Daisy dead, who he sets out to avenge.
TFC is generally considered the weakest episode; the maps are all solid, but are placed with an odd difficulty curve. The first two maps are the hardest in not only the game but arguably the hardest id Software developed themselves (Final Doom is another story), while most of the maps afterwards are much easier and plainer than even Inferno. However, Romero’s Against Thee Wickedly is a great and difficult map once you figure out how the central teleporter works.
A neat tidbit, all of the maps except Fear are named after Bible verses.
