The glitched Pause-menu trick can be combined with other known retry glitches in the game, resulting in absolute mayhem. On the sliding scale of glitchiness, this game truly deserves five Winx points out of five!

0:00 - doing the classic retry glitch using the cutscene at the end of Chapter 1 Checkpoint 2. However, I also throw in the Pause-glitch for good measure. Doing all this with a very late timing causes the cutscene Pause-menu to become glitched instead of the regular one, resulting in some unique effects.

The combined cutscene plays behind the cutscene Pause-screen. It definitely looks a bit weird, since instead of the "normal" combined cutscene camera we have a different camera that focuses on Max, showing him standing around and eventually teleporting to the balcony outside. Then the pre-Checkpoint 3 cutscene starts playing, and everything seems fairly normal for now (aside the duplicated actors).

Pressing Start at any time causes mostly pretty harmless effects, similar stuff to what you'd accomplish using the regular variations of glitched Start-menu, i.e. glitched camera angles. (These I'll cover later, I guess). However, letting Max fail the roof sliding set piece once, you unlock some new very unique effects which actually might have sequence breaking potential!

1:08 - So... after Max has failed once, press Start when Max is sliding down to suddenly make the game jump into the victory cutscene. This cutscene combines with the roof slide in a peculiar way. You can still see reticle on the screen and the camera is glitched up. Can't shoot at all, though. Also, this victory is cut short because in just a few seconds the terrorist will kill Fabiana. The victory cutscene audio will keep playing in the game over screen. After retry things have mostly returned to normal.

1:47 - a more interesting variation is letting Max fail, then pressing Start during the cutscene where he leaps on the roof. Nothing seems to happen at first, but then... if you press Start again during the bullet time, things get screwed up big time.

It seems the victory cutscene is combined with the elevator cutscene from the start of Checkpoint 4! You can see the elevator doors briefly as the victory cutscene starts with glitched camera angles. The property of the cutscene has also changed, and it can't be skipped any longer. The camera angle is Max-centric and fixed during the entire cutscene, looking weird. At the end, Max rides the elevator down but never comes out. You're stuck, but it's not a softlock because you can retry from last checkpoint.

2:53 - Retrying makes you return to the roof slide set piece, except Max is displaced and he looks like he is falling down inside the half-unloaded house. You can shoot, but you can't hit your target so you're destined to fail! Yeah, have to restart because you can't win this battle.

3:37 - the glitched victory cutscene (2nd variation) with more sightseeing. It's pretty neat you can rotate the camera after manually Pausing. Lets you see the cloned actors and other craziness that much better. This way you can also explore the rarely seen lower floor apartment which is a cutscene-only area.

---

In general this trick is fascinating because it invokes cutscenes from further on in the game. Perhaps in another circumstance you could trick the game into skipping a part of the game by starting the next cutscene early?

Glitched Pause-menu can also be combined with Melee + Retry glitch, but it is a little lame (or so it seems). This and other less critical variations are covered in the next video.
