An extra long video to celebrate a new glitch!

Roughly two days ago Mattmatt10111 played Max Payne 3 and (accidentally) found another strange mechanics glitch that causes unique results in almost every Checkpoint.

Instructions: play up to Chapter 6-2 in your game-in-progress. Then, whenever you want to start the glitch, choose Continue from main menu, then quit game. After this, the next Checkpoint you load will almost always be glitched up somehow.

So far you only get glitchy results using Continue (not chapter select) and with Chapter 6-2. It still needs to be tested sooner or later if other Chapters could also produce similar results when Continued in.

As for the common effects of the glitch, the game world usually becomes very dark and desaturated. Max loses his gun and he sometimes looks as if he is covered in white goo. He may also spawn out of bounds or die mysteriously upon starting a Checkpoint. The effects vary a lot depending on what Checkpoint you load. This video shows the effects from around Chapter 1.

0:00 - Chapter 1-3. The game colors are dark and desaturated. Max doesn't have a weapon on him, making this Checkpoint unwinnable. The glitch does not become fixed even with additional retries.

0:18 - combined with glitched Pause-menu effects, you get some new hues to enliven the world of Max Payne 3 with.

0:43 - Chapter 1-4. The Checkpoint starts with Max about to fall through the bottom of the elevator, but it's only a visual thing that lasts a few frames. After the Checkpoint starts proper, you'll notice that Max doesn't have a gun. You can play onward in the level like normal if you get a gun from an enemy.

If you retry, you randomly get another result where all graphics in the level are invisible, even enemies. The graphics only become fixed once you reach Chapter 1-5.

2:18 - just for fun I did melee + retry glitch in Chapter 1-4 with the continue glitch active. This lets you freeze Max on the spot with invisible graphics surrounding him, which looks even weirder than usual.

2:52 - Chapter 1-5. The game colors are very dark and desaturated. Max also starts off without a weapon. Retrying won't fix the glitch. If you get a weapon, you can continue playing in the level as usual with the dark color scheme, and the darkness won't become fixed until Chapter 2 starts.

5:29 - Chapter 1-6. Max dies instantly as you load the Checkpoint. If you load again too soon, you may softlock the game.

If you retry repeatedly without getting softlocked, eventually you'll see Max fall down through the bottom of the level. Falling to the bottom of the map is fatal, as you'd expect. Retrying manually during the fall can get you a result where Max finally spawns inside the level safely, but the colors are once again dark and desaturated and Max also lacks a gun.

6:25 - Chapter 1-7. For some reason Max spawns all the way up to the apartments where Chapter 1-2 started. He falls down as soon as the Checkpoint begins and promptly dies. Retrying makes Max fall again and again to the discolored and sometimes only partially loaded environment before dying. Retrying too fast after a death can result in a game crash, and usually the game crashes sooner or later anyway with this variation.

7:42 - Shootdodging as you load the Checkpoint lets you move Max's starting position so that he instead falls out of bounds. But he won't have time to die from the fall, because the Checkpoint's timed "failure cutscene" will activate, and it will play out with half-unloaded environments.

8:21 - bonus clips. In Chapter 1-5, there is also a side effect where the doors behind you aren't locked, so you can backtrack. The lighting effects look pretty dramatic in the hall, so Max strikes a pose...
