Max Payne 3 - alt. "Checkpoint 0" glitch in Chapter 2

There is a bizarre alternative way of creating a Checkpoint 0-like effect in Chapter 2. And unlike the regular Checkpoint 0, this one lets you explore inside the dance club instead of street level.

0:00 - go to Chapter 2-2 and do glitched Pause-menu. Rarely you get a severe glitch where the game starts lagging and all audio goes silent as Max bursts through the window. Now you're in Checkpoint 0... sort of.

And yes, the whole game goes completely silent. To make this video sound more interesting, I took the liberty of playing a DJ and putting on some nice glitchy tunes... hey, what music could suit a glitch video better than glitch music?

0:41 - playing onward in the level, when you reach the door at the top of the stairs, nothing seems to happen. But when you turn around, you see that some of the Chapter 2-3 data has loaded - for instance there are some (passive) enemies around. The new clues haven't loaded yet, though.

1:44 - the fog ambience that is present in Chapter 2-2 and 2-3 hasn't been cleared when you reach outside, resulting in a particularly foggy looking São Paulo.

2:06 - the passive civilians are formidable obstacles and Max gets knocked away if he vaults towards them. But they are not immune to bullets.

2:24 - the rest of the level lacks triggers and actors of any sort. Max can freely run anywhere he wants, and even spend some time in the cutscene-only area separating Chapter 2-3 and 2-4.

3:57 - the path ends at Chapter 2-5 doors, which are locked at the moment.

4:13 - like during normal Checkpoint 0, trying to retry at the moment just makes the retry become buffered and Max's animation is reset. So I became distracted by the novelty of interrupting some animations by Max I never could before. For instance: interrupting lying completely prone makes Max bounce in air a little bit. Interrupting a shootdodge makes Max turn upright and standing in the middle of the jump. Unfortunately I didn't think of interrupting weapon switching animations or reloading.

4:39 - another interrupt while lying prone got Max stuck, so this game session was doomed. But I did notice one other strange side effect while at it: tapping the reload button in this state made Max shake his gun / guns. This only worked with right firearm or dual-wielding, but not with left firearm. Strange stuff.

4:59 - I restarted the level from that point. After the lengthy intro cutscenes, the glitch effectively restarted, looking even more like an authentic Checkpoint 0 glitch with Max lacking a gun. This time the door leading to Chapter 2-2 area was blocked, but otherwise it was pretty much the same thing.

5:47 - the game crashed as I backtracked from Chapter 2-4 area back to the cutscene only-area.

Some general thoughts: this glitch is fairly rare and has only happened to me twice so far. The first time around Max got killed by enemies, resulting in a softlock. So, I've only been explore around the empty level once so far.

I wonder what would happen if you quit game and went to another Checkpoint while this glitch was active. There's a chance it is somehow unique from normal Checkpoint 0, and if it is, it should cause some new results elsewhere in the game too... But further tests have to wait until the next time this glitch starts by a complete accident.
