MetiKSP E16 | ATS11 - The Fallen Ceti | Carrying : Ganymede 5 Probe
ohdear ;w;
Re-iterated for it's third launch. The Ceti rests upon the launchbay with it's new launch profile (a vertical launch) as proven to be more fuel efficient then previous flights. Carrying
the sattelite Ganymede 5 pioneer - which is an interplanetary mission intended to send a flyby probe by Eve - one of the nearest planets. Note: This is by far the heaviest payload of which the Ceti has carried so far. Baring not just a sattelite but also a specific Centaur stage meant to carry sattelite beyond Earth's gravity well.
Following launch, the mean yaw of the spacecraft reaches intended position, as the spacecraft approaches Max-q - a bit before stage seperations with the thruster stages. Seperation complete. a loosened boltstraps installed to the thrusters fail to decouple as the seperatrons fire out the remaining fuel of the thrusters |hydrazine which is dangerous for life| before safe re-entry and landing. Manual control, attempting to wrest control of the craft by rotating it sideways. The repeated maneuver causes the aft boltstraps to come loose but not the front. Heavy collisions occur across the ship. As warnings blare for the loose of the right wing aeleron. Reaching Max-Q. The boosters are forcefully yanked off the ship during an extremely risky 8g maneuver in order to force them to detach
now unable to re-enter safely. The Ceti is forced to circularize into whatever 'feasable' orbit it can possibly achieve. Circularizing begins, shortly after the fallback of the boosters. Yet the damage is done, the fuel lines reaching the left aerospike is loosened, causing a side leak combustion -forcing the spacecraft into a spin. Unable to recover, the ship relies on RCS fuel to circularise into an orbit, of which is highly elliptical and inclined.
Ceti won't open, the bay is stuck, we have unstuck it, but it's stuck. Severe crew injury is reported, as the attempt to at least free the now battered cargo -reportedly in 3 pieces now, occurs.
An attempt to force-overide clamp procedures punctures the Centaur fueltanks of the Ganymede 5 probe. Causing an uncontrollable spin-out of the spacecraft.
One flightcrew's lifesignals flatlines. Comfirmed from severe concussions. As the other clings on for life. Attempting to wrest control. And Stuck in space with barely any ration for what was supposed to be - 1 day mission.
The final flight of the Ceti ends here, along with its predecessors the Alpha, Beta and X2.
All hopes to recover the craft are lost. What's left is the Ground Control monitoring the life signs of the only crew member left onboard.
