Metroid Fusion Minimalist/No Damage Run - Part 14: Sector 6 (NOC) 2nd Visit
Gameplay starts at 7:18; battle with Security Robot (X-)BOX at 9:37; Restricted Lab escape at 14:07; handling of Yameba shooting gallery starts at 18:24.
After the Secret Message Route, I would have expected that there wouldn't have been much left to worry about. I was wrong, although this part involves a taste of what's to come. Of course, the only big issue involved is at the end of the intended segment and it gets to the point where I give this part the indignity of being split into 2 parts, but I will get into that part's inane points soon enough.
First, I need to talk about NOC 2nd visit proper. Since Barrier Core-X is long gone and took his obnoxiousness with him, thankfully the only real concern that wouldn't be BOX is Burus in some descent segments. I mentioned about their counterattack. It's of course making it harder to safely move down as needed. Of course, as I said everything I ever needed to about descents, I'm obviously going to be a broken record at this point about them. At least nothing has us forced to fall at full speed, so mostly the biggest annoyance is a room where we'd have to move diagonally downward, but there, Burus are simply having their ability to be problematic capitalize upon camera limitations, not to mention some of the terrain getting in the way of the shots. This is evident when we're coming back through this room.
BOX himself, or rather X-BOX (funny, Nintendo), is the same fight as the original BOX except all of its attempts to be a threat outside the Core-X phase are changed up, and would be an issue....if there wasn't an EASY camping position on the far left for the player to work with. The only real issue is created by using Missiles to cut down on tedium and thus having supply issues when handling the Core-X, which just happens to be a Beam Core-X. What happens is that the lesser X like to move away from you and the Beam Core-X's beam attack can EASILY hit you if you're not baiting it well enough. This isn't impossible to overcome, but it can cause unwelcome complications if you want this fight done in a timely manner. Sorry, X-BOX, but you're just too cheesed and too much of an idiot to warrant better description.
I need to focus on a room right before the save room I officially use. Note that I say "officially" because I use one along the way too thanks to that room. The room in question has Yamebas in an absurd number. This room is a shooting gallery even if you use the Diffusion Missile method that I use to try to make things calm down, and suffice to say that it's a headache to get through. Mind you, it wouldn't be so bad on its own. So what's the split-warranting problem? Here's your answer: it's right after a bunch of dialogue. I do not want to read and respond to a bunch of dialogue over and over again just to get squeaked. This is over 10 minutes into the whole segment, which also has little else try to be enough of a threat, although the Restricted Laboratory escape could warrant a little practice to know how to get around the larval Metroids that actually don't hurt you but can knock you back nevertheless. Just....seriously, the Yameba shooting gallery is simply an insulting annoyance.
At least obtaining the Wave Beam is so much better handled in this game than it is in Metroid: Other M, which aimed to make you get an excuse to try to escape a sudden avalanche and somehow look "cool" while doing so.
Oh yeah, and by the way, you can reach the Operations Deck before going into NOC at this point. Not that you can do anything there. The devs saw that coming.
