Metroid Fusion Minimalist/No Damage Run - Part 6: Sector 6 (NOC) 1st visit
Yeah, it's been a month. The issues with Mangs from the Fire Emblem and Advance Wars communities have not been fun at all. Did you know his latest video, which is 20 minutes long, got 34 Likes within only 5 minutes of upload? Just....what?
Gameplay starts at 5:30. Barrier Core-X fight is at 8:01. Missile Tank? extra at 16:00. SA-X encounter damage involvement extra at 19:37. Cold X stuff extras at 21:01.
Starting off, our computer proves itself a better CO than the actual Adam Malkovich by actually warning us of areas we can't deal with and giving us a pep talk. So that's g-...wait, what's going on? Please tell me we're not dealing with some retroactively recycled plot that was involved in a game where the original thing there was character assassination.
I knew NOC was going to be a pain to wade through, but surprisingly, it wasn't the Cold X and their memorization demands that butchered my motivation about the whole thing, oh no. It was the Barrier Core-X, sometimes known as the Mega Core-X. This thing is just a bad design boss. You might notice me start the fight moving to the right side of the room. If you don't do this, you are at the mercy of hoping your charged shot will hit Barrier Core-X itself before wasting too much of its ridiculously low Pierce on its orbiting miniatures, since Barrier Core-X is too big and too fast to directly evade. Even this corner isn't providing foolproof evasion, since Barrier Core-X can fly too high anyway and you won't be able to clear it with a jump if you need to do that.
This, however, is just the start of my issues with the fight. In general, Barrier Core-X is going to be outside your field of vision unless you have it chased down. Its only attack is to try to ram at you with some remote idea of tracking. You also fight this thing on a room that actively involves PLATFORMS. Honestly, this is WORSE than Serris, because at least Serris involved some thought to his design, but Barrier Core-X is just a fast moving circular object designed without any consideration for how Samus can handle it. It goes to show how zoom-in hurts more than a camera that doesn't keep the player character centered. You can at least adapt to the latter like you can in Secret of Evermore because you can actually set up vision there. Here, you're stuck with Samus who beside being blind as a bat here also has air speed in competition with that of Mike Jones from Startropics.
I'm honestly surprised that recording attempts didn't hit triple digits. At least everything after Barrier Core-X can be dealt with by being cautious enough, so this was my second recorded attempt that even got to the regular Core-X. The first one was ruined by the Core-X itself because of course you have to play acrobat when you're still fighting it on a platform. Here, you see I'm able to play around the Burus' deceptive reach counterattack. Vision issues still aren't fun even though most of this is ascents, but at least I'm not punished for being passive beyond expending time, which I can be sure I'd still be having plenty of for getting the best non-100% ending.
Oh yeah, and there's an SA-X encounter along the way to Barrier Core-X. I swear these encounters are so story-focused.
