Metroid Prime - Episode 18: I Did all This Backtracking and all I got was this Lousy Flamethrower
In today's episode of the "Metroid Prime" playthrough, we collect all of the remaining items in the Tallon Overworld and Chozo Ruins, as well as get an "upgrade" for our Plasma Beam.
Since there are only a small handful of items left to collect in the Tallon Overworld and Chozo Ruins, we're going to be lumping our last sweep of both areas into this video- especially since there really isn't much to write home about since we've already knocked out all of the eventful collecting in past episodes. For example, all that's left for us in the Tallon IV Overworld is to use the Grapple Beam to reach the uppermost portion of the Root Cave to get two missiles. And as for the Chozo Ruins, we're just going back to the Hall of Elders to blast a Plasma Beam barrier to reveal a Chozo Artifact.
Heck, we spend more time backtracking than actual collecting- especially when trying to get back to the Phazon Mines' entrance so we can get the Plasma Beam's super missile upgrade: the Flamethrower.
With how powerful the Plasma Beam can be, you'd think that it's super missile upgrade would be the most overpowered thing in the game. However, that couldn't be any further from the truth since the Flamethrower consumes missiles as quickly as the Wave Buster, but is less effective. Sure, I may have my complaints about the Wave Buster, but at least when you use it, the enemy is pretty much frozen in place until you stop the attack. Meanwhile, when you use the Flamethrower, the enemy's free to move around and it doesn't even feel like you're hitting them. As such, in most fights, you're better off just sticking with the standard Plasma Beam.
