This is a video review of Mordheim: City of the Damned based on my first look at the game. Please not that this is not a comprehensive review and does not come close to covering all aspects of the game. It is called a first impression review because, although it is presented in review style, it is still a first impression of Mordheim based on a limited number of gameplay hours (about 4 in this case).
Mordheim: City of the Damned first impression review summary:
The core gameplay of Mordheim: City of the Damned is separated into two modes: tactical combat, and warband management.
The tactical combat system is quite good. Positioning and clever allocation of units is more important than pulling off massive spell combinations, so the tactical element is a little more subtle than a game like Divinity: Original Sin, but it's still quite interesting in a way that reflects the dark Warhammer setting.
The warband management system works just fine, but it feels a little too much like housekeeping rather than gameplay. I think it would be better if it had some more strategic decision making, like X-COM has outside its missions.
The main flaws with Mordheim: City of the Damned are its long load times, poor tutorialization, awkward camera, and horrible controls. It can be a very furstrating game to play, since the gameplay is fun but there are constant annoyances getting in the way. Plus, learning the game mechanics to start with is an exercise in tedium.
