Myst Masterpiece Edition Gameplay Part 1 - A Lot of Reading to Start
I want to make customary for the channel to start a new series for the first video of each year. I previously did it in 2019 with "Celeste" and in 2023 with "Rain World", but it wasn't a constant feature until now. And the game I chose now in 2025 to begin a series of is "Myst". Here is featured the "Masterpiece Edition", which is, according to its store page on GOG (where I purchased it) "the closest version of the original Myst that works on current computers". I recorded this gameplay, as well as I intend to do with the rest of this new series, with the Xbox Game Bar.
This game is one of those that defined the Point & Click genre, and made it clear to me that I'll need to think a lot to solve the problems ahead. I found some pieces of lore and hints to solve some puzzles, but I haven't made much progress as of yet. The storytelling is compelling and I wanted to explore more, but I felt very tired and sleepy while I played, so I had to conform with the lore exploration. The Constellations looked cool though, but I'm sure I have to find more clues about which dates I have to search in the Hologram Room.
About the lore, much of the story I found out was introduced as Journal Logs written by a character named Atrus. It seems that Myst Island has endured several "Ages" and there might be time travels involved. Also, I'm not sure about where was Atrus' wife, Catherine, living during the events depicted in the Logs. But I guess I'll find out as I solve the puzzles.
See you in the next video!
