NES Alphanumeric! #039: CAPTAIN PLANET AND THE PLANETEERS
I live stream 8-bit Nintendo games at least once a week, usually WedNESdays from 10–11 p.m. Eastern, and sometimes on Friday nights.
MINI-REVIEW: This game has some ambitious ideas, but overall it's a frustrating experience set to dreadful background music. The biggest problem is the gameplay mechanics and controls, which leave a lot to be desired—it's tricky to switch weapons while flying and shooting because you have to use the START button to cycle through the elements. I definitely enjoyed the Captain Planet section of Level 1 more; the controls were tighter and the level design was more interesting. This is one of those games where you have to read the manual for tips on completing the levels, which is better than nothing, but I think demonstrates they knew the game was too difficult. I don't mind a difficult game, but it needs to be more fun than this to keep me coming back for more punishment. Alas, the earth is in peril, and I'm just not that interested in saving it under these conditions.
