NEW Roguelike Alert! Meta-Ghost Takes the Cyberpunk Spotlight!
0Meta-Ghost: The Breaking Show is an exciting, cyberpunk-themed 3D roguelike hack-and-slash action game currently in development. Set in a neon-drenched future, the game centers around a deadly, live-streamed game show where contestants fight for fame, wealth, and survival in life-or-death challenges. While its core gameplay loop—battling through levels filled with enemies and ending with a boss fight—is fun, it's the smaller details between those battles that give Meta-Ghost its depth.
At its heart, Meta-Ghost is all about balancing risk and reward, a staple of great roguelites. Each run begins with a roadmap that lets you plan your path, choosing between different routes filled with potential upgrades. This adds a strategic layer to the gameplay, as some paths offer buffs and enhancements, helping you tailor your character's build for the challenges ahead.
In this dystopian world, the main currency is Likes, which you earn by clearing levels. You spend these to buy health and upgrades between runs. The game's unique twist comes from its augmentation system, where you outfit your character with cybernetics and augments. These come in two major categories: Relics, which are random items with various effects, and Drivers, which essentially deal with megacorporations that offer powerful upgrades at a cost, much like the blessings from Hades—but with a darker, more exploitative twist.
Another highlight is the variety of characters you can play, each with unique abilities and playstyles. Permanent upgrades, earned through runs, allow you to customize your character further, with different rarity Prosthetics, Augmentation Chips, and Computing Powers giving you plenty of options to experiment with.
That said, while Meta-Ghost offers a solid roguelike experience, it’s not without its flaws. The story, despite its flashy presentation, lacks depth and doesn’t quite hold up in the long run. Additionally, there's an Offline Mode with a separate progression system, meaning any progress made offline doesn't carry over to your main “online” save, which could be frustrating for players who want to continue their journey on the go. On top of that, there are some minor issues with hitboxes and hurtboxes that can disrupt gameplay, although these are often outweighed by the overall fun.
Still, in its early access state, Meta-Ghost offers a polished and engaging roguelike experience with plenty of potential for growth. Fans of the genre will find much to enjoy as the game continues to develop. I’m excited to see how it evolves, and I hope you enjoy watching my video!
