Dreadhunter SMASHES Expectations for Gritty Action and RPG Fans!
0Dreadhunter is an epic, fast-paced shooter RPG currently in development. It’s a hybrid twin-stick shooter/action RPG where you play as a space-faring monster hunter on a mission to eliminate deadly alien creatures. Armed with a powerful, high-tech mech suit, you’ll face waves of monstrous threats while hunting bounties across procedurally-generated levels. As you progress, you’ll explore loot containing new weapons, abilities, and upgrades to help you tackle increasingly difficult, massive bosses. Each playthrough offers a fresh experience, with different enemies, loot, and challenges waiting at every turn.
The game’s core mechanics—shooting, ability usage, and combat—are solid and enjoyable, but there are a few areas for improvement. First, weapon diversity feels limited. Different weapon types, like plasma guns, behave the same (e.g., slow-moving orbs), which reduces the value of loot diversity. Introducing more variety in projectile behavior would add depth to the combat system.
The mod system shows promise but currently doesn’t significantly alter gameplay. The developers should consider adding more powerful, game-changing affixes to mods to make the grind more engaging. This would encourage experimentation with new weapons and builds, especially in the solo play experience.
Melee combat also needs more impact. While the execution system is reminiscent of Doom Eternal, it lacks the visceral satisfaction of close-range kills. Adding stronger visual effects and more satisfying animations would make melee combat feel more powerful and rewarding.
Finally, adding particle effects on weapon impacts would better communicate the strength and nature of each weapon, making combat feel more dynamic and impactful.
