NEW Roguelike Alert! Shadow of the Depth Takes on Diablo!
0Shadow of the Depth is a promising top-down action roguelike in development, featuring beautifully designed dungeons filled with vibrant colors. The gameplay starts slow, with your character initially underpowered, but as you progress and defeat enemies, you'll collect randomized loot like weapons, potions, and upgrade books. Occasionally, you'll be trapped in a dense area where you must fight until every enemy is defeated, earning a special chest as a reward—usually containing a higher-grade item or a book that can alter your playstyle. While this mechanic is a satisfying way to reward skillful players, the rewards can sometimes feel underwhelming, depending on your build.
The game offers a variety of enemies, each with unique attack styles, and while the top-down perspective doesn’t show your character in full, it creates a distinct and engaging visual experience. The clear design of each enemy makes it easy to identify threats, such as archers with bows or bomb-throwing creatures resembling a cross between ants and crabs. The blast radius of bombs is easily visible, giving you a chance to avoid damage. However, the sheer number of enemies at times can make dodging difficult, but with practice, I found it easier to control my character and execute my preferred melee attack style.
While Shadow of the Depth doesn't introduce anything groundbreaking to the roguelike genre, it stands out through its attention to detail and unique visual style. The variety of characters and stories adds intrigue, offering plenty of potential for replayability. If you're a fan of the genre, there's a lot to enjoy here.
